Wild Birds of Ireland - Goldfinch

The goldfinch is a brightly coloured finch with a red face, yellow wing patch and a white rump. They are found in open spaces, gardens, parks and rough grassland throughout Ireland. Goldfinches feed predominantly on seeds and are often observed extracting seeds from thistle heads with their well adapted bill. The majority are resident all year in Ireland breeding from April to May while in winter they sometimes visit garden feeders and bird tables.
