Wild birds of Ireland - Linnet

Linnet - A small finch, widely distributed in Ireland - more commonly observed in rough grassland, open & upland areas. Males are distinctively marked with red foreheads and breasts - the colours becoming more prominent in the breeding season. Females are duller in colour having a brown streaked appearance. Linnets feed mostly on seeds and occasionally insects. They are resident in Ireland all year tending to form larger flocks in winter.
