Rabbit - The rabbit is not a native species to Ireland but was probably introduced by the normans as a source of food in the 12th century. The rabbit is very adaptable and is widspread throughout Ireland present in all habitats. A herbivour the rabbit typically feeds on grasses and other plants. Rabbits can breed anytime of year but usually in the spring & summer months and may have up to seven litters a year! They are a food source for many animlas including foxes, stoats and badgers.
